Dedicate 9 weeks for a lifetime of opportunities

IAM is committed to nurturing the growth of aspiring yoga teachers and dedicated practitioners. Our community of teacher-training alumni, faculty and studio staff will ensure you are supported every step of the way.

If you have ever considered becoming a yoga teacher or want to deepen your existing practice, our IAM Yoga YTT program is for you! Our comprehensive, 200-hour program is Yoga Alliance Certified, which means upon successful completion, you can qualify for RYT-200 (registered yoga teacher 200 hours) status and begin teaching.

Our Weekend & Evening format makes our training more accessible for those navigating regular working hours during the week. Every trainee also receives unlimited access to public classes for the program, which means lots of practice time and easy integration into our IAM yoga community.

Modules & Curriculum

Anatomy David Keil Online Training & Anatomy And Physiology Margot Stokreef

- Applying the asynchronistic anatomy training to the practicalities of teaching a class.

- Studying the Classifications of Asana – the purpose, the gross anatomy, the subtle anatomy and the desired effect of the posture.

- These workshops will also study Managing and Preventing Injuries.

These sessions will take you beyond the mat and the physical aspects of the yoga practice and into a deeper understanding of the long history of yoga and its rich Eastern roots. We will explore some of the key texts that belong to the wisdom tradition of yoga, as passed down from the ancient sages and rishis and contemplate how these revelations can be applied to living a mindful and purposeful life.

As part of this module we will also explore the subtle yoga body, with integral practices that will enable you to fully integrate the fulsome body, breath and mind experience, including:

Mediation: You might be surprised to know that the original purpose of physical yoga was to move energy and prepare the body for stillness. This place of stillness and presence is known as meditation. In this training you will learn some simple and effective techniques to bring you into a more calm, clear and connected state of being. Stillness is a super-power that once cultivated enables you to show-up more present and available for yourself and all those around you.

Pranayama: In Sanskrit (the sacred language of yoga), “prana” means life energy and “yama” means control. We will explore breathing techniques that help balance the energy channels of the body and help promote vitality in the system. You will also learn how pranayama helps bridge the body-mind connection and supports your meditation practice.

Chanting (sound healing): Sanskrit, the sacred language of yoga is a vibrational language that opens-up the more subtle channels of the body. We will learn to chant some of the key verses from the primary yoga texts and explore how this method is an integral part of your yoga meditation toolbox.

Teaching Methodology with Margot Stokreef

Practical Teaching Skills: Through a supportive process of guided exercises and peer feedback students will enhance their toolkit of teaching skills. This training will include

Verbal teaching skills: three-part cueing for yoga postures, vocal cadence and intonation, storytelling, opening and closing classes with intentions and meditations, impactful and inclusive language.

Hands on teaching skills: physical assists and enhancements, consent,

Classroom management: demonstrations, use of props and modifications, room set up, teaching with music, sequence notation, and skills for delivering online classes

This module will leverage a specially designed IAM Yoga sequence to help you learn and apply the fundamental asanas (poses) needed to build and teach a class. This will include insight around benefit, alignment, and function of each of these poses as well as how to intelligently integrate the various categories of poses and vinyasas (flows) for a well-balanced and accessible class. Key categories we will explore (but not limited to):

  • Namaskars (salutations)
  • Hip openers
  • Chest openers
  • Back bends
  • Inversions

Trauma-Informed Yoga with Shehla Khan

- Comprehension of and responsibility to increase equity in yoga

- Accountability measures

- Self-reflection on how yoga ethics relate to practice and teaching

Yoga labs are an opportunity to take what you are learning in the classroom and apply it through self-directed practice. As part of the teacher training requirements, you will take 10 yoga lab classes, using the provided IAM Core Flow sequence to practice fundamental asanas (poses). These one-hour sessions are supported by IAM faculty teachers who will be available to provide one-to-one guidance, answering any questions you have about the various poses and what you are learning.

Professional development with Jonny Belinko

In this immersive program, yoga studio owners will delve into advanced techniques for business growth, community engagement, and personal development. Discover innovative strategies for enhancing your teaching offerings, refining your leadership skills, and cultivating a supportive environment for both teachers and clients.

Through a blend of interactive workshops, expert-led discussions, and practical exercises, participants will gain invaluable insights into effective studio management, marketing strategies tailored to the yoga industry, and fostering a culture of inclusivity and wellness.

Repost @duffyoga: There is no beginning or ending of a yoga practice, it’s always right now. The practice is coming back to the present moment over and over, constantly arriving. There’s no rush, because we are always perfectly on time. Of course we’ll get distracted and let our minds wander, that’s also important, but the practice is always coming back to what is here and now, what is tangible, what is in our control in the moment. It is a practice of focus, acceptance and surrender among many other things. ...

Taking back-to-back classes for the 30-day challenge? We love that for you! Just a quick reminder: even if both classes are in the same room, we need you to stop by the front desk to check in for the second class. This helps us avoid any No-show errors, gives our staff time to clean the space, and ensures we know who`s attending each session.

Also, please remember not to leave a class early to join a different one. It can disrupt the flow of other students. IAM offers so many fantastic classes that you can take back-to-back, so if you haven`t tried it yet, go for it. Please let us know. Thanks for helping us keep things running smoothly!

The land on which IAM YOGA operates, at Yonge and Bloor, was for many millennia the traditional home of the Anishinaabe, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Haudenosaunee, and the Huran-wendat (Wyandot). Today, this land is still the home of many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to connect with our bodies, minds, and spirits through the sacred practice of yoga on this equally sacred territory, and we encourage the reflection of the profound relationship Indigenous peoples maintain with it.
IAM YOGA also acknowledges the role imperialism, colonialism, and systemic racism have played in the cultural genocide of Indigenous peoples.
Lastly, we respect and honour their caretaking of this Earth; their indispensable knowledge is of the utmost importance in the race against climate change.
