Interview: Elizabeth Vecchio

An Interview with Elizabeth Vecchio

Tell me about your yoga background.

Yoga was introduced to me by a good friend in 2009, and my first class was in a hot room where we did a ton of backbends. I blacked out – dehydrated, underprepared, and overwhelmed – saying I definitely wouldn’t be back. After some thought, I returned and found solace in more gentle non-heated classes. A year later in 2010, I completed my training and have been teaching every day since.

What are you working on right now in your practice and/or in your life?

I’ve recently become certified as a Thai Massage practitioner, so I am currently looking for ways to implement that into studio workshops as well as offer my students and clients a new form of movement healing through private lessons + Thai massage.

What would you be doing if you weren’t teaching yoga?

Traveling the world, becoming a professional photographer, or building a dog sanctuary.

What is the most important thing that you want student to learn in your classes?

How to be themselves. So often we walk around in masks, sleeves, and sometimes, full suits of armour. I like to encourage breath, intuitive choice and self-exploration in my classes with the hope that my students can show up as their raw, unapologetic selves.

If you could sing one song on American Idol, what would it be?

Don’t Speak – No Doubt (Album: Tragic Kingdom)

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Global Linguist. How incredible would it be to be able to speak every language and communicate in every dialect to every human being on earth? If I could take it one step further, I’d stretch it to animals too!
